Who are we? Meet our partner – Politecnico di Milano

X-TREME 6G is run by a consortium of 17 companies, universities and research centers who decided to join their strengths and assets within one project to define the future of 6G in Europe, at the unique intersection of microlectronics and telecommunications

Italy is known for its millennial history, poetic landscapes, delicious food, and its vintage movies. However, if there is something that Italy should also be known for, it is the excellence of its technological education system, which in X-TREME 6G is embodied by our partner, Politecnico di Milano.

With more than 40 000 students and more than 150 years history, POLIMI distinguishes itself as one of the top technical universities in Europe. The Broadband Optical Networks, Security, and Artificial Intelligence (BONSAI) lab is hosted at the department of electronics, information and bioengineering (DEIB) of POLIMI and has more than two decades of experience in telecom network management and optimization.

BONSAI’s upcoming contributions to X-TREME 6G let us envision ground breaking outcomes.
Those contributions should focus on Network as a Sensor, a field where POLIMI counts some of the most-skilled specialists in Europe and beyond.

As said by Massimo Tornatore, director of the BONSAI Lab –

“We are proud to be part of X-TREME 6G along with renowned institutions from the industry and academia. As PoliMI, we bring onboard a unique and proven skill set on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence solutions. Transforming production microwave networks in distributed sensing platform (Network as a Sensor) is a fascinating goal, and the range of possible applications is extensive and engaging (from environmental sensing to network optimization)”.

X-TREME 6G project has received fundings from the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement NO 101192681.
