Who are we? Meet our partner – Fraunhofer IZM
X-TREME 6G is run by a consortium of 17 companies, universities and research centers who decided to join their strengths and assets within one project to define the future of 6G in Europe, at the unique intersection of microlectronics and telecommunications.
Part of the Fraunhofer society, Fraunhofer IZM specializes in applied and industrial contract research. Fraunhofer IZM’s focus is on packaging technology and the integration of multifunctional electronics into systems.
The institute has a staff of more than 400 and saw a turnover of 42.3 million euros in 2023, of which 75% was earned through contract research.
Dionysios Manessis, Fraunhoger IZM’s key representative in X-TREME 6G, had something to say about his organization’s implication in our project. It goes as follow –
“We are poised with enthusiasm in X-treme 6G to further develop heterogenous packaging technologies for fabrication of miniaturized mmWave AiP modules. In this context, IZM will diligently run optimized RF simulations on module designs and will persist, throughout the project, toward transfer and industrialization of Embedding technologies and large scale fabrication of mmWave modules for D- and H-bands“,
In X-TREME 6G, Fraunhofer IZM’s role will focus on the design of system integration, demonstrators, interconnections, radio frequency signal paths and antenna array. Additionally, Fraunhofer IZM’s will also take part in the fabrication of the project’s millimetter wave modules, and contribute to 6G module standardization.
X-TREME 6G project has received fundings from the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement NO 101192681
